MARSHALL, Minn. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons could not shake the tough pitching of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference on Saturday as they suffered two losses to the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs, 8-0 and 13-1.
In the first game, the Mustangs' pitcher Ali Honken was one out away from pitching a no-hit game, but it was spoiled by the Dragons' Amanda Hoefer with one out left for the Red and White.
The Mustangs picked up ten hits nad eight runs off of the Dragon pitchers.
Alexa D'Onofrio took the loss, moving her overall record to 2-3. She threw five complete innings, giving up four runs off of six hits.
Mara Litzer closed the game for the Dragons, throwing two innings, allowing four hits and four runs.
SMSU took the second game, 13-1, as they scored runs in each inning. The Dragons put their sole run in the third inning as
Miranda Bronson scored on a
Molly Keeler double.
Brandi Howell suffered the loss after pitching one and two-thirds innings and giving up four runs on four hits. Both
Steeli Norton and Litzer pitched a few innings in the rest of the game.
