Senior
Angie Jetvig kick-started her career-scoring night by converting three field goal attempts, including a three-point play, to give the Dragons a 7-2 lead. Jetvig would show her early post-dominance by grabbing four rebounds within the first 10 minutes.
Haley Thomforde contributed to the early lead by laying in a Husky turnover. Quick scoring would be stalled at 11-6 following a finesse assist over two defenders from
Kaycee Charette to
Megan Strese.
The Dragons held the Huskies scoreless for over five minutes, seven straight field goals, but also missed five shots of their own over that span. Freshman
Taylor Shepard, making her presence in the everyday starting lineup, ended the scoring drought by converting an offensive rebound into two points. Charette sank back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Dragons a 21-11 lead with eight minutes to play in the first. Strese continued her post-presence to give the Dragons their biggest lead of the first half, 24-13. Four separate Dragons scored points over the next four minutes but the Huskies answered with a run of their own. SCSU's Jessica Benson hit a 3-pointer to end the first half, 36-33 in favor of the Dragons.
Following a turnover from Jetvig early in the second, Jordi Gerking hit a 3-pointer from the left side to tie the game at 36. An assist from Gerking to Benson gave the Huskies their first lead of the day.
Taylor Shepard converted her second second-chance opportunity to quickly grab the lead back for the Dragons. The next minute and a half would see two 3-pointers from Benson for the Huskies and one from Yernatich for the Dragons, setting the Dragons lead at 47-45.
Morgan Zabel, hitting a three from the right side, crowned an 11-3 run from the Dragons to grab a more comfortable 58-48 lead.
Sam Price, with a layup and two 3-pointers, brought the Huskies to within one point of the Dragons with under 10 minutes to play. Setting up a play from the top of the key, Thomforde rolled to the right side and lobbed a pass to Jetvig in the post to start a 10-3 run for the Dragons. Price singlehandedly brought the Huskies back to within four, 69-65, following a couple scores and a steal. The Dragons showed their resiliency by answering every Huskies score thanks to a new career high 31 points from Jetvig. Jetvig, also earning another double-double on the season, sealed the 82-71 win for the Dragons by wasting time and recording an assist off a Strese dagger layup with 20 seconds to go.
