MSUM Soccer Seniors Prepare for Final Weekend of 2012 Campaign

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Seniors of the Minnesota State University Moorhead soccer team prepare for their final weekend of action as Dragons as the team will face Minot State on Friday and the University of Mary on Sunday.
 
The Dragons are 0-2 all-time against the Beavers of Minot State, including a 7-1 nonconference loss earlier this season in Minot, N.D.  The Dragons series record stands at 1-9-1 against the Marauders of Mary.
 
Last weekend marked the final full home weekend for MSUM as they fell to St. Cloud State, 2-0, and Minnesota Duluth, 3-1.  Senior Holly Gillund scored the Dragons' lone goal of the weekend.
 
The Dragons, following a 2-0 first half on Friday against the Huskies, were able to make changes in the gameplan to hold the Huskies to a scoreless second half.  Junior goalkeeper Carole Braschayko saved five shots on the day while starting in her eighth game on the season. 
 
The Bulldogs earned the first score of Sunday's match that set the halftime score of 1-0.  Gillund was able to convert a saved shot from UMD's goalkeeper to tie the game at one apiece.  UMD was able to put two more goals in the net to take the win on the day.  Junior Victoria Hoffman started in the goal for the Dragons and saved 17 shots on the day.
 
Sophomore Erin Nyberg leads the team in goals scored with seven followed by fellow sophomore Isabel Neyman with five.  Nyberg and junior Amanda Wurdeman share the team lead in assists with two.
 
Bulock's record in 14 seasons with the Dragons is 104-172-18.
 
About the opponents
Minot State Beavers
The Beavers, 12-3-1 overall and 10-3-0 in the NSIC, are coming off a weekend sweep at home that extended their winning streak to six games.  MSU first defeated Bemidji State, 2-1, followed by a 5-0 shutout of Minnesota, Crookston.  The Dragons faced the Beavers in their season opener on August 30 in Minot that ended as a 7-1 win for the home team.  Sophomore Zoe Fisher leads the Beavers in both goals (8) and assists (6) while totaling a successful-shot percentage of 12.3%.  Senior Marie Torres started all 16 games in the net for the Beavers, saving 77 shots and allowing eight goals.  Head coach Jason Spain has totaled a record of 32-18-4 in three seasons with the Beavers. 
 
University of Mary Marauders
The Marauders, 8-7-0 overall and 8-5-0 in the NSIC, swept Minnesota Crookston, 5-1, and Bemidji State, 2-1, in Mandan, N.D.  Junior Alex Bachman-Williams leads the team in goals scored with six while senior Michelle Jones leads in assists with four.  Senior Ashley Akers started 14 of 15 games in the goal while saving 68 shots and allowing 18 goals.  Head coach Sarah McNulty totaled a 8-7-0 record while in her first season in the position.
