CROOKSTON, Minn. -- Senior setter
Anna Olson had a season-high 54 set assists to help the Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team earn a 24-26, 25-17, 25-23, 25-21 win over Minnesota-Crookston in NSIC action Saturday in Crookston, Minn. MSUM improved to 12-6 overall and 4-5 in the league, while the Golden Eagles fell to 7-9 overall and 3-6 in the NSIC.
Olson's 54 set assists were just two short of a career-high. She also had 13 digs and five kills for MSUM.
Four Dragon hitters were in double figures, led by sophomore
Annie Palmquist with 17 kills. Senior
Heidi Lensing had 16 kills, while senior
Meredith Egeland added 13 on a .323 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Maggie Gruber added 12 kills for MSUM.

Katy Ness had 25 digs to anchor the Dragon defense, while freshman
Amber Krenske added 17.
"I thought both teams played great defense," MSUM head coach
Tammy Blake said. "We did a great job of executing our shot selection which contributed to our success."
The Dragons led for much of the first set before the Golden Eagles rallied to take a 26-24 win.
After the first-set loss, MSUM regained the momentum.
Leading 8-7 in the second set, the Dragons surged into a 17-9 lead, thanks to a 9-2 run. Freshman
Kaitlin VanWinkle, Palmquist, Olson, Egeland and Lensing all had kills during that run. MSUM was never threatened in rolling to a 25-17 win.
The third set was close, with 14 ties and three lead changes. MSUM trailed 18-17 at on point but scored three straight points -- which was a result of a kill from Lensing and two aces from VanWinkle -- to take a 20-18 lead. UMC came back to tie the set at 22-22, but the Dragons scored two straight points -- on a kill by Egeland and a block by VanWinkle -- to take a 24-22 lead. One point later, VanWinkle finished off a 25-23 Dragon win with a kill.
MSUM trailed 8-5 at one point in the fourth set but answered with an 8-3 run to take a 13-11 lead. Lensing, Palmquist and Gruber had kills during the spurt for the Dragons.
The Golden Eagles tied the set at 13-13, but five straight points helped MSUM pull away. Lensing had two kills during the 5-0 run, while Egeland and Olson added kills. The Dragons used that run to record a 25-21 win.
VanWinkle added five kills, three service aces, a solo block and a block assist for MSUM. Freshman
Casie Baer added 11 digs.
The Dragons hit the road for their next action on Oct. 12 when they play at Upper Iowa. The match begins at 7 p.m. in Fayette, Iowa.
