MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead soccer team will finish a four-game road trip this weekend at the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) and Southwest Minnesota State.
The Dragons/Cougars all-time record stands at 3-0-0 in favor of MSUM. The Dragons/Mustangs series record is 11-7-3 also in favor of MSUM.
Rollie Bulock's Dragon squad hold a 3-8-1 record after splitting this past weekend's games at Bemidji State, losing 2-1, and Minnesota, Crookston, winning 2-0. The team's top three goal scorers (
Isabel Neyman,
Erin Nyberg and
Amanda Wurdeman) each added one to their total.
Neyman provided the Dragons with their lone goal Saturday against the Beavers. The sophomore gave MSUM a lead at the 37-minute mark by taking a corner kick from
Ashley Gallegos and putting it into the bottom of the goal. BSU scored two goals following to end the scoring and game at 2-1 for a Beaver win.
Freshman goalkeeper
Ashley Leintz started in her second match of the season, resulting in another shutout. The first half was scoreless from both teams but Wurdeman drew first blood one and a half minutes into the second period, assisted from Nyberg. Nyberg got into the mix again by scoring the game's final goal.
Nyberg added to her team-leading goal total with six while Neyman follows with four and Wurdeman with two. Wurdeman still holds the team lead in assists with two.
Junior
Carole Braschayko started six games on the season while totaling a save percentage of .704. Junior
Victoria Hoffman started four with a .591 save percentage. Leintz was provided her second starting role on Sunday with as many shutouts.
Bulock's record with the Dragons is 103-169-18 in 13 seasons.
About the opponents
Sioux Falls Cougars
The Cougars, 0-12 overall and 0-10 in the NSIC, lost their past weekend's games to Upper Iowa and Winona State while being outscored, 12-0. USF first travelled to Fayette, Iowa and was shutout, 10-0, to the Peacocks who are fourth in the NSIC. The Cougars then travelled to Winona, Minn., and was shutout again, 2-0, to the Warriors who are second in the NSIC. Mikenna Greathouse leads the team in goals on the season with four while Sidney Allen and Katie O'Neill each tie for first in assists with two. Corrin Cook started the majority of the USF games as goalkeeper, totaling a save percentage of .663. Samantha Maybon started three games with a save percentage of .794.
Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs
The Mustangs, 5-5-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the NSIC, tied and lost in their two previous games. SMSU lost, 1-0, to Winona State on Saturday followed by a scoreless tie with Upper Iowa on Sunday. Kendahl Fisher leads the Mustangs in goals scored on the season with four while three are tied for the assists lead with two each. Sonya Smith started all 11 matches while totaling a save percentage of .866.
