Dragon Men Stay Unbeaten With 70-57 Win Over Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Senior Anthony Tucker scored 24 points to lead the Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team to a 70-57 win over neighboring rival Concordia-Moorhead in nonconference action Tuesday night at Memorial Auditorium on the Concordia campus.

MSUM improved to 4-0 on the year with the win, while the Cobbers dropped to 1-1.

Tucker finished with 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting, and also led the Dragons in assists (four) and steals (four). Senior forward Alex Novak had 14 points, one block and two steals, while sophomore Jordan Riewer added 11 points and two assists. Senior Eric Olson had nine rebounds off the bench to lead the Dragons on the boards.

The Dragons led 9-6 early before breaking the game open with a 14-2 run as their lead grew to 23-8 with 12:10 left in the first half. Tucker started the run with a three and had five points, while freshman Brady Wohler had four points, including two on a dunk.

MSUM led by as many as 19 in the half, as Riewer hit a three with 6:38 left in the frame to stretch the Dragon advantage to 32-13. The Dragons led 39-21 at the break, thanks to 51.7 percent shooting.

Concordia battled back to within 54-45 with 8:39 left, but the Dragons scored six straight points -- with four coming from Tucker -- to push the lead back to 60-45, and from there, they cruised to the 13-point win.

Freshman Tyler Vaughan had eight points, while Wohler had six points on 3-of-3 shooting off the bench.

MSUM is off until Nov. 27 when it hosts Valley City State for a 7 p.m. game at Alex Nemzek Hall.

Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: One of the most thrilling of the Dragons' 101 all-time victories over cross-town rival Concordia College, came on Nov. 21, 2006 at Concordia. The Cobbers led MSU Moorhead by as many as 20 points in the second half, before the Dragons came all the way back to tie the ballgame 78-78 on a Blake Strouth three-pointer sending the game into overtime. In the extra frame, MSUM once again came from behind and finally captured an 85-84 overtime win.
