Dragons Tennis Open Season Successfully Against Golden Eagles

FARGO, N.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead tennis team recorded a successful 2012 season opener by defeating Minnesota Crookston, 8-1.  The Dragons improve to 1-0, 1-0 NSIC as the Golden Eagles fall to 0-2, 0-2 NSIC at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.
 
The Dragons' Kayla Huether opened the night in No. 1 singles action against Katelyn Johnson.  Huether began strong by taking down Johnson 6-2, 6-0.  Kathryn Neubauer, in the No. 2 spot, followed her teammate's lead by beating Cassandra Jarvis 6-0, 6-1.  Alyse Grelson was the next Dragon to take the court by beating Holly Roepke in three sets.  The senior fell early, 5-7, but came back to earn the win 6-3, 10-7.
 
Following the Golden Eagles' lone win on the night, Jaime LaCoursiere took down Alyssa Klingenberg 6-3, 6-1.  Kaitlin McNary wrapped up singles action in the No. 6 spot by beating Casey Paris 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.
 
The senior duo of Huether and Grelson began doubles action in the No. 1 spot.  The Dragons pair took down the Golden Eagles' duo of Johnson and Klingberg, 8-1.  In the No. 2 spot, Naubauer and Galstad took the seventh win for the Dragons over Jarvis and Amanda Pihlaja, 8-6.  Wrapping up the night and a 8-1 team victory was LaCoursiere and Mcnary earning a 8-3 win over Paris and Roepke.
 
The Dragon women take the courts next on Friday, Feb. 17 in St. Coud, Minn.  MSUM will face St. Ben's with matches beginning at 4 p.m.
