Dragons Continue Home Stand

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon softball team continues their home stand on April 11 against the University of Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagles in a double-header at 2 & 4 p.m.

DRAGONS
The Dragons (6-25, 2-14 NSIC) jumped out to early leads and posted two big homeruns in their last outing against Northern State University on April 6 but fell short after comeback attacks from the Wolves. 

In game one, senior AJ Hoefer got the Dragons on the board early by launching a two-run homerun over the center field fence. After the Wolves took back the lead in the top of the third inning, 5-2, Hoefer and Amanda Moore answered in the bottom of the inning with one RBI apiece, pulling the Dragons within one run of NSU. But the Wolves, shutting out the Dragons, scored seven more runs before the game was over and took the victory, 12-4. 

The Dragons came out strong yet again in game two. In the bottom of the second inning, freshman Taylor Huss brought in two runs off a two-run homer. Both the Dragons and the Wolves posted two runs apiece in the third inning, giving the Dragons a 4-2 lead. The Wolves rallied for seven more runs throughout the game matched against the Dragons two runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Wolves came away with the win, 11-6. 

GOLDEN EAGLES
The Golden Eagles (9-24, 3-13 NSIC) are the No. 12 spot in the NSIC after dropping two games to the University of Mary on April 6. The Marauders defeated UMC 10-0 (6) and 4-0.  

UMC combine for a total of six hits on the day and left eight runners on base. Matched against the Marauders strong defense and 18 hits, the Golden Eagles fell short, unable to convert for any runs. 

The Match Up
This is the second meeting of the season for these two teams. On Feb. 28 the Dragons and the Golden Eagles faced off in the Duluth Tournament. MSUM defeated UMC, 16-11. 

Last season the teams crossed paths on two occasions. In the first bout on Feb. 27, 2011 at the St. Scholastica Fall Classic in St. Cloud, Minn. the Dragons were victorious, 6-1. On April 25, 2011 the teams met for the regular season NSIC match up in Crookston, Minn.  MSUM and UMC split the games. The Golden Bears took game one, 6-7, and the Dragons walked away with a 5-2 win in game two.
