ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon softball team dropped their last two games of the season to the Concordia University – St. Paul Golden Bears. CU defeated MSUM, 10-2 and 10-1.
Game 1
Senior AJ Hoefer opened the double-header with a two-out solo homerun down the right field line, giving the Dragons a 1-0 lead. But the Golden Bears answered in the bottom of the first with six runs, taking the lead from the Dragons, 6-1. Both teams went scoreless in the second inning.
The Golden Bears tacked on three runs in the top of the third, building their lead, 9-1. In the top of the fourth inning the Dragons added another run to their total when first basemen Amanda Moore launched a solo homerun to right field.
Dragon pitcher, Brandi Howell, earned three outs from three batters in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Dragons had a chance to make a run at the Golden Bears in the top of the fifth inning, but left three runners on base after a fly-out to end the inning.
The Golden Bears walked off with a win in the bottom of the fifth inning after scoring another run, ending the game 10-2.
Game 2
In game two the Dragons jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Hoefer scored the Dragon run off a single up the middle from Brittany York. The Golden Bears responded with another strong first inning totaling five runs off five hits.
The Golden Bears continued to rally in the second inning, adding five runs to their 5-1 lead. The Dragons totaled two hits in the third inning, but were unable to convert for runs, leaving both players on base.
Both teams went scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings, ending the game, 10-1, in favor of CU.
