Dragons Take Early Lead but Unable to Overcome Marauders Attack

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon softball team fought a tough battle but fell short in double-headers against the University of Mary. The Marauders defeated the Dragons 10-2 and 20-15.

Game 1
After the Marauders opened game one with a single run in the first inning the Dragons took back the lead, 2-1 in the bottom of the second off an RBI single by Sam Adolph. The Dragons held the 2-1 lead until the Marauders posted another four runs, taking the lead, 5-2.

After both teams went scoreless in the sixth, the Marauders went on another run, scoring five more unanswered runs in the top of the seventh. MSUM had only three batters appear at the plate in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Marauders the victory with a final score of 10-2.

Game 2
The encore was a high scoring game, with the final score being 20-15 in favor of the Marauders. However, it was the Dragons that jumped out to the early lead. After scoring one run in the bottom of the first the Dragons had a seven run second inning and a four run fourth inning, taking the lead 12-3.

U Mary got the bats going in the top of the fourth inning, totaling 12 runs off seven hits, gaining a 15-12 lead. The Marauders rallied for another three runs in the top of the fifth, growing their lead to 18-12. The Dragons battled hard, earning two more runs in the fifth off a two run home run from Brittany York, and one in the sixth, but they could not over come the Marauder lead.

The Dragons were led by Taylor Huss in game one, she went 2-of-3 at the plate with one run scored and one RBI. Amanda Moore and York were the power hitters for the Dragons in game two. Moore hit 2-of-5, scored one run and had five RBI's. York hit 2-of-4 and contributed four RBI's and scored two runs.

The Dragons will next face the Wolves of Northern State University at Nemzek Field on April 6 at 12 & 2 p.m.
