Dragons Soccer Heads East for Pair of NSIC Contests

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State University Moorhead soccer and head coach Rollie Bulock will be hitting the road again, this time for their first full NSIC road weekend.  The Dragons will be going to St. Paul, Minn., to take on Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday and Mankato, Minn., on Sunday to face Minnesota State Mankato on Sunday. Both games are at 1 p.m.

The Golden Bears, in their 16th meeting of the series, lead the all-time record against the Dragons 9-4-2.   The Mavericks, going into their 12th game against the Dragons, also lead the all-time series, 7-2-2.
 
The Dragons split the past weekend's home games to set their record at 2-3-1.  MSUM and Wayne State took Saturday's match to overtime as the Dragons won, 4-3.  The Vikings of Augustana shutout the Dragons as the visitors took the 2-0 win.
 
Erin Nyberg led the way for the Dragons as she scored the first and last goals of the day.  The first came 17 minutes in from an Isabel Neyman pass.  Neyman and Sienna Rebollozo also scored to give MSUM a 3-1 lead before the Wildcats tied the game at the 77-minute mark.  Nyberg converted the game-winning goal in the second overtime period off an assist from Alyson Beare
 
Sunday's game was an offensive struggle as the Vikings controlled the ball for most of the game.  Augie scored two goals at the 12-minute and 19-minute marks.  The two would be the only scoring on the day.
 
Nyberg has been the go-to scorer, leading the team with 4 goals on 17 shots.  Neyman follows Nyberg with two goals scored, one being a game-winner.  Five Dragons have recorded an assist. 
 
Carole Braschayko leads the goalkeepers in saves with 16 in three games played, totaling a 0-2-1 record.  Victoria Hoffman comes in at second in saves with 12 in two games and a 1-1-0 record.  Freshman Ashley Leintz saved 6 shots in her only start to earn a shutout win.
 
Rollie Bulock, in his 13th season with MSUM, has totaled a record of 102-164-18.

About Concordia, St. Paul
The Golden Bears enter Saturday's match with an equal overall record to the Dragons, 2-3-1 and 1-1-1 in the NSIC.  CU played three matches last week, earning two wins and a tie.  The Golden Bears defeated Waldorf College on Sept. 12, 4-0; tied Bemidji State on Sept. 15, 2-2; and defeated Minnesota, Crookston on Sept. 16, 3-1.  Amanda Olsen leads the team with four goals and three assists, totaling 11 points.  Emma Gartner and Kayla Kuczaboski have split time in the goal, each starting three games.  Kuczaboski leads her teammate with 19 saves on 59 shots faced.  She has allowed nine goals while totaling a record of 0-2-0.  Gartner has saved seven shots on 29 faced while only allowing three goals.  She has a record of 2-1-0 as the starter.  Head Coach Steve Bellis, in his second season, has totaled a record of 9-13-1.

About Minnesota State
The Mavericks begin their weekend with a record of 4-1-1 and 3-0-0 in the NSIC.  MSU Mankato swept their NSIC opponents last weekend in Mankato.  The Mavericks first took a 3-1 win from Minnesota, Crookston and followed with a 5-0 shutout of Bemidji State.  Korey Kronforst leads the team in goals with four on 10 shots while coming off the bench.  Cassie Welk and Nicole Dooher each have three assists to lead the team.  Molly McGough starts in the net and has totaled 17 saves on 21 shots.  Peter McGahey, in his 6th season with the Mavericks, has totaled a record of 61-21-9.

NSIC preseason poll
The Dragons were picked to finish 12th in the preseason NSIC coaches poll, which was announced on Aug. 15. MSUM finished with 71 points in the poll. As part of the league schedule, MSUM will play all 15 NSIC teams this season. A conference win will earn the team three points in the standings, while a tie earns one point. The top eight teams qualify for the NSIC tournament.
