Soccer Back at Home for Homecoming Weekend

MOORHEAD, Minn.
– The Minnesota State University Moorhead soccer team looks for a bounce-back weekend at home against Upper Iowa and Winona State.  The Dragons will face the Peacocks on Saturday at 12 p.m. and the Warriors on Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
The Dragons face the Peacocks for the seventh time in series history.  UIU leads the series, 4-2.  Sunday will be the 22nd time the Dragons and Warriors meet all-time. WSU leads the all-time series, 15-6.
 
MSUM fell on the road to Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State this past weekend to place their record at 2-5-1, all coming against NSIC opponents.  The Dragons are 2-2-0 at home for the season.
 
The Dragons pushed the Golden Bears to extra time during their Sept. 22 match.  The team's leading scorer Erin Nyberg added to her season total by striking first blood at the 26:50 mark.  Her fifth goal of the season put the Dragons on top 1-0.  CU scored the next two goals but Isabel Neyman, the team's second leading scorer, tied the game at two with 10 minutes to play.  In the overtime period, CU scored a clock-beating goal to win the match, 3-2.
 
No. 8 Minnesota State scored five minutes into the game the next day to put the home team on top.  Two more goals followed in the first period and three in the second to give the Mavericks a 6-0 win.
 
Nyberg added to her team-leading goal count of five with one goal scored over the weekend.  Neyman also added one for three on the season.  Amanda Wurdeman leads the team in assists with two.
 
Carole Braschayko leads the goalkeepers in saves with 24 and in goal average with 2.61 in four games started. She has totaled a 0-3-1 record as the starter while Victoria Hoffman is 1-2-0 in three games started.
 
Rollie Bulock enters the weekend with an overall record of 102-166-18 in hs 13th season with the team.
 
About the opponents
Upper Iowa
 
The Peacocks enter Saturday's game on a winning streak of five games, all at home.  Their overall record stands at 7-1-0, 4-1-0 in the NSIC.  UIU finished their home-stand this past weekend by defeating the Minot State Beavers and University of Mary Marauders.  Both games came as shutout wins, 1-0 against MSU and 2-0 against Mary.  Three student-athletes lead the team in goals with two apiece.  Three others also lead in assists with two apiece.  Goalkeeper Amanda Smith has started all eight contests in the net, allowing just two goals on the season.  She has totaled 33 saves and a save percentage of .943.  Head coach Brian Bahl enters his sixth season as a Peacock with an overall record of 56-41-15.
 
Winona State
 
The Warriors enter the weekend with a 5-3-0 overall record and a 4-1-0 record in the NSIC.  WSU split this past weekend's matches against the Beavers and Marauders, losing 1-0 to MSU and beating Mary 2-0.  Samantha Fegen leads the Warriors in goals on the season with two.  Katy Soliday leads the team in assists with three.  Alexandra Vial has started all eight matches in the goal and has allowed as many goals.  She has totaled a .855 save percentage while saving 47 shots on the season.  Head coach Ali Omar, in his 17th season with the Warriors, has totaled a 246-82-20 overall record, ninth on the all-time NCAA Division II charts for wins.
