MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team battled Winona State to a 0-0 halftime tie, but the Warriors pulled away in the second half in a 5-1 win over the Dragons in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Sunday in Moorhead.
Winona State improved to 7-3 overall and 6-1 in the NSIC, while MSU Moorhead fell to 2-7-1 and 1-5-1 in the league.
The two teams battled to a scoreless halftime tie, with Dragon junior goalkeeper
Victoria Hoffman making five saves in the opening 45 minutes.
Winona State broke through in the second half as Mehan Bolton scored two goals in a span of 12 seconds to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead. Amanda Kne's goal at the 59:41 mark made it 3-0, but shortly after, junior
Amanda Wurdeman scored to get the Dragons on the board at the 59:58 mark, making it 3-1.
Ashley Swanson assisted on the goal for MSUM.
Winona State added two more goals, however to extend the lead to 5-1.
Hoffman finished with seven saves for MSUM.
The Dragons are at Bemidji State on Oct. 6 for another conference game.
