MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team hits the road for the second straight weekend when it plays at Upper Iowa (8 p.m. on Friday) and Winona State (6 p.m. on Saturday) in a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games.
The Dragons (15-5, 9-5 NSIC) split on the road last weekend, losing in the final seconds of overtime against Bemidji State (76-75) before rolling to a 71-48 win over Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday. Upper Iowa is 14-6 overall and 10-4 in the NSIC after splitting on the road last weekend, while Winona State (18-3, 12-2 NSIC) shares the conference lead with Minnesota State, Mankato after sweeping two games on the road last weekend.
MSUM leads the all-time series with Upper Iowa, 8-6; the two teams split a year ago, with the home team winning both times. The Dragons will meet Winona State for a 151st time, with the Warriors holding a 79-71 edge. Winona won in Moorhead, Minn., on Jan. 14, 2012 by a 76-63 score but the Dragons avenged the loss with a 90-72 win over the then-No. 3 ranked Warriors in Winona on Feb. 17, 2012.

Jordan Riewer each had 14 points for MSUM.
Tucker leads MSUM at 20.2 points per game, which is tied for 20th in all of Division II. Novak averages 12.7 points per game and leads the team in rebounding (8.7 per game) and blocks (31). Riewer is at 11.7 points per game. Tucker also leads with 82 assists. As a team, MSUM shoots 48.5 percent from the field and scores 76.1 points per game. The Dragons outrebound their opponents, 37.3-31.7 and allow 65.9 points per game on defense.
Chad Walthall is in his third season at MSUM with a record of 51-27 at the school.
About Upper Iowa
Upper Iowa is 14-6 overall and 10-4 in the NSIC. The Peacocks lost at Southwest Minnesota State, 74-55 before beating Sioux Falls, 82-74 on the road last weekend.
Tucker Wentzien leads Upper Iowa at 13.1 points per game, while Sam Elgin is at 12.0. Wentzien also leads at 5.4 rebounds per game. As a team, Upper Iowa shoots 46.8 percent from the field and scores 69.5 points per game. The Peacocks outrebound their opponents, 32.8-31.3 and allow 63.0 points per game.
Brian Dolan is in his seventh season as Upper Iowa's head coach with a record of 59-114 at the school.
About Winona State
The Warriors are 18-3 overall and 12-2 in the NSIC. They have won 12 games in a row, including victories over Sioux Falls (73-63) and SMSU (75-60) on the road last weekend.
Senior Clayton Vette leads Winona State at 19.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. He is shooting 56 percent from the field. Grant Johnson, who has appeared in just six games, averages 12.5 points per game, while Xavier Humphrey is at 11.5. Winona State shoots 45.9 percent from the field and scores 70.9 points per game. The Warriors outrebound their opponents 36.0-33.5 and allow just 62.5 points per game.
Mike Leaf is in his 15th season as Winona State's head coach with a record of 333-126 at the school.

Senior
Alex Novak is at 1,072 career points; he became the 26th Dragon player to surpass 1,000 for his MSUM career in the Dragons' win at Concordia. He is also at 937 rebounds, second all-time and just 80 rebounds away from first place, and is the school's all-time record holder with 204 blocks. Novak is also second all-time in the NSIC in career rebounds with 715; he trails all-time leader Gus Johnson of Winona State (819 rebounds) by 104 for that mark.
Tucker also surpassed 1,000 points for his college basketball career at Mankato and is at 1,093 points for his career, which includes time at Iowa and Winona State.

The Dragons were picked to win the NSIC North Division in the preseason coaches poll and were picked to finish fifth overall in the league.
