MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Despite a 21-14 edge in shots, the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team came up one goal short on Sunday as the Dragons fell to the University of Sioux Falls, 2-1 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action in Moorhead, Minn.
It was MSUM's eighth one-goal loss of the 2013 season.
Junior
Erin Nyberg scored the Dragons' goal on a penalty kick in the second half. It was Nyberg's team-best fourth goal of 2013.
Nyberg had eight shots for the game, including five on goal. Sophomore
Kelsey Schatz had three shots, all on goal.
Sioux Falls scored in the first half to take a 1-0 lead. The Dragons got on the board in the second half when Nyberg scored on a penalty kick at the 51:36 mark.
The Cougars regained the lead in the 83rd minute with a goal by Ciara Howerton.
MSUM had several chances in the closing minutes, including a shot by Nyberg in the closing seconds that just missed the net, but was unable to tie the game.
Senior goalkeeper
Carole Braschayko had eight saves for MSUM, which wrapped up a four-game homestand with Sunday's game.
MSUM is back in action on Oct. 26 at Minnesota Duluth.
