BISMARCK, N.D. -- Despite winning three singles matches, the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team fell in a close match against Mary on Friday, dropping a 5-4 contest in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action in Bismarck, N.D.
Mary improved to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the NSIC, while MSUM fell to 1-4 overall and 0-4 in the NSIC.
MSUM fell in two of the three singles matches, which proved to be decisive.
In singles, the Dragons won at the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 slots. At No. 4, freshman
Morgan Smith rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Mary's Rachael Scott. At No. 5 singles, freshman
Ashley Wood also cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mary's Stefanie Gerriets. Junior
Kaitlin McNary also dominated in straight sets with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Alexis Tatter.
The Dragons' lone doubles win came at No. 3, as
Morgan Smith and
Cassie Smith teamed up for an 8-5 win.
MSUM will face Northern State and Mary in NSIC matches on Saturday in Bismarck.
