MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team dropped a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches on Saturday, losing to Southwest Minnesota State, 6-3 and the University of Sioux Falls, 8-1. The matches were played indoors at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.
MSUM fell to 2-7 overall and 2-6 in the NSIC with the losses.
Against SMSU, the Dragons won two singles matches and a match in doubles but came up short. At No.2 singles, freshman
Morgan Smith earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over SMSU's Shelby Monahan, while at No. 5 singles, junior
Jaime LaCoursiere beat Allison Niedert, 7-6 (7-1), 7-5.
The Dragons' doubles win came at the No. 2 slot, with sophomore
Jenna Galstad and LaCoursiere earning an 8-5 win over Monahan and Hannah Hagen.
In the match against Sioux Falls,
Morgan Smith earned a hard-fought 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 win over Rachel Hussey at No. 2 singles. Galstad nearly pulled off a win at No. 1 singles, but lost to USF's Alison Kauss in three sets, 6-2, 0-6, 10-8 (third set super tiebreaker.
The Cougars won all three doubles matches on its way to the win.
The Dragons are back in action on March 28 when they will face Minnesota State, Mankato in St. Cloud, Minn.
