Dragon Softball to Face Minot State in Doubleheader Thursday in St. Cloud; Will Face BSU and UMC in Weekend Twinbills

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team will face a busy stretch with three conference doubleheaders in four days, starting against Minot State on Thursday. The twinbill will be played at the Husky Dome in St. Cloud, Minn., beginning at 11 a.m.

MSUM will also face Bemidji State on Saturday and Minnesota-Crookston on Sunday in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheaders, but the sites and game times have yet to be determined. Check msumdragons.com for more information on those games.

The young Dragons are coming off of a pair of road sweeps last weekend, with two of the four losses coming in extra innings. MSUM lost to Mary, 8-3 and 11-4 (8 innings) and lost to Upper Iowa, 7-4 (8 innings) and 12-3. Their doubleheader at Winona State was canceled and will not be rescheduled. Sophomore Taylor Huss led the Dragon offense by going 8-for-12 (.667) with a homer and an RBI for the week.

For the season, MSUM -- which has all but one position in the lineup filled by sophomores and freshmen in its lineup -- is led by sophomore Moriah Bruns, who has a .301 batting average to go with three homers and 11 RBI. Senior Amanda Moore is hitting .258 with three homers and 15 RBI while sophomore Mollie Annen is leading the team with seven doubles. As as team, MSUM is hitting .222 with 10 homers and 63 RBI in 31 games. On the mound, Morgan Nybo has two wins and a team-best 29 strikeouts for MSUM, while freshman Katie Edison has a 5.14 ERA to lead the team. Five of MSUM's six pitchers are freshmen. Former Dragon softball standout Kelsey Fehl is in her third year as Dragon head coach.

About Minot State
The Beavers are 26-5 overall and 8-4 in the NSIC. The Beavers, who have had six conference games canceled because of weather, have not played since April 7, when they were swept at Winona State. Minot's offense is led by Jen Dixon, who is hitting .520 with eight homers and 36 RBI, while Tiffany Friesen is hitting .442 with 10 homers and 45 RBI. As a team, Minot State is hitting .321 with 32 homers and 168 RBI in 31 games. On the mound, Mandy Greenberg is 14-2 with a 0.92 ERA and 159 strikeouts in 91.1 innings pitched. Bill Triplett is in his sixth season as Minot State's head coach with a record of 180-72 at the school.

About Bemidji State
Bemidji State is 8-29 overall and 2-18 in the NSIC. The Beavers have lost 17 of 18 games, with the lone win being a 5-4 victory over Southwest Minnesota State on April 15.  Nicole Dupay leads the Beavers with a .354 average, while Crystal Bowen is hitting .269 with three homers and 19 RBI. As a team, Bemidji State is hitting .237 with 13 homers and 109 RBI in 37 games. O the mound, Allie Duellman is 3-9 with a 4.65 ERA in 81.1 innings.  Rick Supinski is in his second year as Bemidji State's head coach with a record of 18-66 at the school.

About Minnesota-Crookston
The Golden Eagles are 2-27 overall and 1-17 in the NSIC. They have lost 16 games in a row, with their last win coming on March 28 against Bemidji State. UMC was swept in doubleheaders by SMSU and Sioux Falls last weekend in Sioux City, Iowa. Brooke Timmins leads the Golden Eagles with a .273 average to go with two homers and seven RBI. Ashley Masuos is hitting .267 with a team-best five doubles for UMC. The Golden Eagles are hitting .215 as a team with seven homers and 45 RBI. On the mound, Paige Schaust leads the way with a 1-12 mark and a 5.20 ERA. Ed Deugan is in his first season as UMC's head coach.
