MSUM Women's Tennis to Battle NSIC Leaders Augustana and Winona State

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team will face two tests on Saturday when it hosts two of the top teams in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. MSUM will face Augustana at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and conclude the day with a match against Winona State at 5 p.m.

Both matches will be held indoors at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D. It will be the first action for the Dragons since March 28 when they faced Minnesota State.

Augustana (14-2, 9-0 NSIC) and Winona State (12-4, 7-0 NSIC) are the lone unbeatens in NSIC play. Those two teams will meet Sunday morning at 9 a.m.

MSUM (2-8, 2-7 NSIC) and first-year Head Coach Oliver Summers will look to end a three-match losing streak this weekend. The Dragons are led by freshman Morgan Smith, who is 6-4 in singles play. Freshman Ashley Wood is 3-7, including 3-4 at the No. 5 singles slot.

In doubles, the tandem of Morgan Smith and freshman Cassie Smith are 5-5, including 5-4 in NSIC matches.

For Augustana, Hannah Gebauer leads the Vikings with a 14-1 mark, while Heather Sullivan is 14-2. The Vikings have a team singles record of 101-15 (.871). Gebauer and Jessa Richards have combined for an 18-1 mark in doubles for Augustana.

Winona State is led by Erin Kappers, who is 13-2 at No. 1 singles on the season. The Warriors are 70-26 in singles play as a team. Kappers has also teamed up with Hannah Potter for a 12-2 mark in doubles.
