Dragon Softball Continues NSIC Play With 3 Doubleheaders

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team is back in action this week with three conference doubleheaders. The action starts Thursday when the Dragons play at Mary for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. in Bismarck, N.D.

The doubleheader was originally scheduled to be played in Moorhead, Minn., but has been moved to Bismarck because of cold and field conditions in the Moorhead area.

The Dragons will then cap off the week with doubleheaders against Winona State and Upper Iowa on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The games are scheduled to be played in Moorhead, but the site and times could change depending on weather conditions.

MSUM will look for its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win this week.

Moriah Bruns leads the Dragons with a .300 average. She also has two homers and 10 RBI. Senior Amanda Moore is hitting .247 with team-bests of three homers and 12 RBI. As a team, MSUM is hitting .209 with nine homers and 52 RBI. On the mound, Morgan Nybo leads with two wins and 23 strikeouts.

Former Dragon softball player Kelsey Fehl is in her third season as MSUM's head coach.

About Mary
Mary is 16-13 overall and 5-7 in the NSIC. The Marauders went 1-3 on a road trip last weekend, being swept at Winona State and splitting at Upper Iowa. Allison Brown leads Mary with a .379 batting average with seven homers and 31 RBI, while Brittney Hadley is hitting .341 with eight homers and 30 RBI. Mary is hitting .303 as a team with 34 homers and 147 RBI. On the mound, Cherlyn Trujillo is 12-6 with a 2.05 ERA and 132 strikeouts in 110 innings pitched. Angelena Mexicano is in her third season as Mary's head coach with a record of 70-54.

About Winona State
The Warriors are 22-6 overall and 7-1 in the NSIC. Winona State has won seven in a row, including home sweeps of Mary and Minot State last weekend. Morgan Lintz leads the Winona offense with a .453 average with 10 homers and 38 RBI, while Reed Karsten is hitting .402 with 18 RBI. As a team, the Warriors are hitting .343 with 30 homers and 173 RBI in 28 games.  Ashley Walker is 10-0 on the mound for the Warriors with a 3.84 ERA. Greg Jones is in his 13th season as Winona State's head coach with a record of 526-193-4 at the school.

About Upper Iowa
Upper Iowa is 16-12 overall and 3-5 in the NSIC. Hailley Haning has 16 RBI and is hitting .344 for the Peacocks. Rachael Anello is hitting .333 with two homers and 11 RBI. As a team, Upper Iowa is hitting .305 with 11 homers and 132 RBI.  On the mound, Brooke Redmond is 8-4 with a 3.71 ERA in 73.2 innings pitched. Anna Van Wetzinga is in her third season as Upper Iowa's head coach with a record of 40-88 at the school.
