Stephanie Lindo scored a goal, but the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team saw its season opener spoiled on Thursday night with a 2-1, double-overtime loss to the University of Jamestown in a nonconference contest held in Jamestown, N.D.
MSUM, which did not have a senior in the starting lineup, fell to 0-1-0 on the year with the loss.
"We had some first-game jitters with our young team," MSUM head coach
Rollie Bulock said.
The Dragons took a 1-0 lead at the 67:32 mark of the second half when Lindo scored the first goal of the second half off of an assist from freshman
Jessica Johnson.
The game stayed that way until there were less than six minutes left when Jamestown's Elyse Stewart scored a goal to tie the game at 1-1.
Jamestown scored with just over five minutes in the second overtime left to secure the one-goal win.
Sophomore
Ashley Leintz had eight saves for the Dragons.
MSUM makes its home debut on Sunday with a nonconference game against Missouri Western. The game begins at noon at the MSUM Soccer Field.
