Missouri Western Spoils Home Debut for Dragon Women's Soccer, 2-0

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 halftime tie, but Missouri Western scored two second half goals to earn a 2-0 nonconference win over the Dragons in action Sunday at the MSUM Soccer Field in Moorhead, Minn.

The Dragons fell to 0-2 with the loss, while Missouri Western improved to 1-1.

Senior Carole Braschayko had a solid game in net for MSUM with 12 saves in her first start of the season.

Anna Hulteng led the Dragons with three shots, while junior Stephanie Lindo had two. Five different Dragons had shots on goal: Lindo, freshman Jessica Johnson, Megan Thorwick, freshman Micah Palmer and Sienna Rebollozo.

The Dragons' best scoring chance came in the second half, when Hulteng fired a shot that hit the crossbar at the 52:04 mark.

The Griffons scored at the 58:13 mark of the second half and followed with a crucial insurance goal at the 76:00 mark to secure the two-goal win.

MSUM opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play Sunday at home against Northern State. Game time is 3 p.m. at the MSUM Soccer Field.
