CROOKSTON, Minn. – Senior
Tarell Clark scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team to an 87-63 win over Minnesota Crookston in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Saturday night in Crookston, Minn. MSUM steadily pulled away in the second half after leading by eight at halftime.
MSUM improved to 12-4 overall and 8-4 in the NSIC with the win while the Golden Eagles fell to 4-12 overall and 1-11 in the league.
Clark finished 10-of-16 from the field and 8-of-11 from the free-throw line. He also had nine rebounds and three assists. Junior forward
Urbane Bingham had 18 points while junior guard
Malik Wood added 14 points and four assists. Senior
Taylor Filipek had a career-high 11 rebounds to go with two blocks and five points off the bench.
MSUM shot 45.6 percent (31-of-68) and hit 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from three-point range. Minnesota Crookston shot 45.5 percent (25-of-55). The Dragons had a 43-30 edge in rebounds and only committed five turnovers, compared to 12 for UMC.
The Dragons led 36-28 at halftime and held a 55-47 lead with 13:21 left but outscored the Golden Eagles 32-16 the rest of the way to earn the 23-point win. Wood sparked the Dragons during the final 12 minutes with 11 points, while Clark had eight and Bingham had seven.
MSUM scored the first eight points of the game – taking an 8-0 lead just 1:08 into the contest – with Bingham and sophomore
Tyler Vaughan each providing three-pointers. The Dragons led by as many as 11 in the first half before the Golden Eagles cut the lead to 31-28 with 2:36 left.
Clark scored the final five points of the half to push the Dragon lead to 36-28 at the break. Clark had 14 first-half points and also had seven rebounds. Bingham had seven first-half points.
The Dragons never led the lead drop below nine in the second half and never trailed in the game.

Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: With tonight's victory the Dragons avoided their fifth consecutive NSIC road loss. The last time the Dragons lost five NSIC road games in a row was the 2004-05 season when they lost their first six. The Dragons snapped that streak by beating Southwest Minnesota State 76-71 on Feb. 26, 2005.
