MSUM Women's Soccer Drops 3-1 Contest to Peacocks

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Freshman Danielle Tharaldson scored her first collegiate goal, but the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team came up short against Upper Iowa on Sunday, dropping a 3-1 contest to the Peacocks at the MSUM Soccer Field in Moorhead, Minn.

MSUM fell to 2-9 overall and 1-8 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with the loss while Upper Iowa improved to 7-4 overall and 7-2 in the league.

Tharaldson scored her first career goal – off of an assist from freshman Madeline Drexl -- at the 81:53 mark of the game and brought the Dragons within 3-1. They had a chance to get even closer minutes later when senior Stephanie Lindo had a shot in front of the net that was turned away by Caila Petrie with less than two minutes left.

Junior goalkeeper Ashley Leintz had 15 saves in net for the Dragons, who were outshot 26-4.

Lindo, Tharaldson and senior Erin Nyberg had shots on goal for MSUM.

The Dragons will play five of their final six games on the road, starting on Oct. 18 at Minnesota Crookston in the Highway 75 Rivalry Rock game.
