SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team battled Sioux Falls to a 0-0 tie through 84 minutes, but a goal by Elisa Martinez in the 85th minute proved to be the difference as the Cougars edged the Dragons, 1-0, in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's soccer on Sunday in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Dragons fell to 3-12 overall and 2-11 in the NSIC with the loss while Sioux Falls improved to 2-13-1 overall and 2-10-0 in the league.
MSUM was shorthanded in the game, as starters
Mackenzie Carlson and
Sienna Rebollozo were both out. Senior
Stephanie Lindo and junior
Taylor Maestas-Miller both left with injuries in the first half and did not return.
Junior goalkeeper
Ashley Leintz had four saves for the Dragons. Both teams had 14 shots for the game but MSUM had an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Senior
Erin Nyberg led the Dragons with four shots and there shots on goal. Lindo had three shots, including two on goal, while sophomore
Gabrielle Bjorge had two shots, both on goal.
The Dragons wrap up their home season on Friday at 3 p.m. against Mary.
