Riewer and Songolo Tie Career Highs in Dragon Men's 106-86 Win over Northern State

MOORHEAD, Minn.- The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team scored 100 points for the second time this season in a 106-86 win over Northern State on Saturday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. Three players scored over 19 points and four scored in double digits for the Dragons, who shot 57.9 percent (33-57) from the field in the game.

With the win, the Dragons improve to 13-1 on the season and 5-1 in the NSIC. Northern State dropped to 10-2 and 4-2 in the NSIC. Both of the Wolves losses this season have come at the hands of MSUM.

Senior guard Jordan Riewer tied a career high with 26 points, while also leading the team with six rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Sophomore guard Aaron Lien and junior guard Ngijol Songolo each contributed 19 points for the Dragons. The 19 from Songolo tied a career high. Senior forward Urbane Bingham added 10 points and five rebounds.

The score was tied at 12 six and a half minutes into the first half after both teams shared baskets back and forth. Riewer hit a three-pointer with at the 12:52 mark to start a 9-2 run for MSUM, increasing its lead to 21-14. Senior guard Prescott Williams scored the last four points of the run for the Dragons. Late in the half, MSUM went on another run, this time outscoring the Wolves 9-0 between the 4:15 and 1:17 mark of the half to give the Dragons a 43-28 lead. Riewer had two points and two assists to spark the run. The Dragon point guard hit a three-pointer with five seconds left in the half to give MSUM its biggest lead of the half heading into the break at 48-30.

Northern State closed MSUM's lead to 11 on three separate occasions in the second half, but could never get closer as the Dragons cruised to a 106-86 victory. The largest lead of the night for the Dragons came at 21 twice in the second half, once one minute into the half after a free throw shot from junior forward Isaac Sevlie and again with 52 seconds left to play in the game after a three-pointer from junior guard Tyler Vaughan.

MSUM will be in action again tomorrow when it faces Jamestown College. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.
