FARGO, N.D. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team earned an 8-1 win over Minnesota Duluth in the Dragons' Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener Saturday in Fargo, N.D.
MSUM improved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC with the win while UMD fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the league.
"I'm so proud of the team. They gave 100 percent effort and it paid off," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "Duluth had a lot of very consistent players and our team showed enormous patience in dealing with that."

Kaitlyn Emerson recorded an 8-5 win over Kelsey Cunningham and Briana Rademacher to complete the doubles sweep for MSUM.
Jones improved to 2-0 on the young season with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win over Saemann at No. 1 singles. Freshman Rebecca Luke was similarly impressive, earning a 6-1, 6-1 in over DeCorsey at No. 2 singles. Also winning in straight sets for MSUM was senior
Cortnei Chance, who won 7-6 (8-6 tiebreaker), 6-0 over Kolles at No. 3 singles, and Wood, who won 6-4, 6-4 over Rademacher.
Morgan Smith moved 2-0 on the year with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 win over Kaitlin Wohnoutka at No. 4 singles.
MSUM hosts Minnesota Crookston at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
