ST. PETER, Minn. –The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team swept all three doubles matches on its way to a 5-4 win over Minnesota State, Mankato in action Friday night in St. Peter, Minn.

MSUM improved to 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with the win, while Minnesota State fell to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in the league.

In addition to three doubles wins, freshman Jessamy Jones (No. 1) and sophomore Ashley Wood (No. 6) earned key singles wins for MSUM.

"Beating a team that we lost 9-0 last year feels really good," MSUM head coach Oliver Summers said. "Every played contributed to this win by winning every doubles match and Jess and Ashley came up with two huge singles wins."

MSUM's sweep in doubles proved huge. Jones and sophomore Morgan Smith teamed up for an 8-4 win over Mankato's Melissa Mashburn and Sarah McCann at No. 1 doubles, and at No. 2 doubles, senior Cortnei Chance and sophomore Cassie Smith topped Shealyn Bakke and Alexis Ronney, 8-6. Freshman Rebecca Lukes and Wood recorded an 8-3 win over the Mavericks' tandem of Abby Schmidt and Alexis Haakedahl.

Jones improved to 4-2 in singles with a 7-5, 6-4 win over McCann at the No. 1 singles slot. Wood improved to 5-1 overall – and 5-0 in the NSIC – with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Schmidt at No. 6 singles.

MSUM will venture out of conference for a pair of matches on Saturday. The Dragons will face St. Scholastica and Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minn.
