WEST ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team was swept in its season-opening doubleheader on Tuesday as Minnesota Duluth beat the Dragons, 10-0 and 4-0 in a nonconference twinbill in West St. Paul, Minn.
While it was the season opener for MSUM (0-2), the games marked the 16th and 17th for the Bulldogs (11-6).
In the first game, MSUM had three hits, as junior centerfielder
Mollie Annen, sophomore second baseman
Kristen Nordby and freshman first baseman
Lauren Meeker all had singles. Junior catcher
Brittany York reached on an error.
Sophomore pitcher
Morgan Nybo took the loss, allowing 10 earned runs in four innings. She walked six and struck out four in her season debut.
In the second game, MSUM had two hits, singles from York and freshman second baseman

Taylor Huss and sophomore first baseman
Shannon Smith reached on walks.
The game was tied at 0-0 through five innings but UMD scored two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to push the lead to 4-0.
Nordby pitched well in defeat for MSUM. She went seven innings and allowed four runs (two earned), striking out three while walking only one.
MSUM will compete at the Dot Richardson Spring Games in Clermont, Fla., from March 15-19. The Dragons will open against Mercy College at 2 p.m. Central time on Friday and then face New York Institute of Technology later that day at 6 p.m. CST.
