Dragon Women's Tennis to Play 3 Matches in Florida Starting Monday

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team will play three nonconference matches in Tampa, Fla., starting on Monday. The Dragons will open the week against West Chester (Pa.) at 7 a.m. on Monday, and follow with matches against Indiana (Pa.) at 10 a.m. on Tuesday and Tampa at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

MSUM is 4-4 overall on the season and 3-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.  The Dragons went 2-1 during their last weekend of action on Feb. 28-March 1, beating Minnesota State, Mankato 5-4 and St. Scholastica, 5-4 before falling to Gustavus Adolphus, 8-1.

Sophomore Ashley Wood leads MSUM with a 7-1 singles mark, while freshman Jessamy Jones is 5-3 at the No. 1 singles slot. In doubles, sophomore Cassie Smith is a solid 5-2 while Wood and freshman Rebecca Lukes are each 4-4.

Oliver Summers is in his second season as MSUM's head coach.

About the Opponents:
West Chester:
West Chester opens the spring season against MSUM on Monday. The team went 3-5 during the fall portion of its season. Tina Tharp is in her sixth season as West Chester's head coach.

Indiana (Pa.): The Crimson Hawks are 4-3 on the season. They are led by Sophie Butland, who is 8-4 in singles play. The doubles tandem of Abby McCormick and Tanya Timko is 10-1 on the season. Larry Peterson is in his fifth season as IUP's head coach.

Tampa: Tampa is 6-6 overall and has won four of its last five matches. The team is led by Kelsey Matthews, who is 10-1 in singles. Matthews and Katherine Pine have teamed up for a 7-1 mark in doubles. Al DuFaux is in his 15th season as Tampa's head coach.
