TAMPA, Fla. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 loss to Indiana University (Pa.) in nonconference action Tuesday in Tampa, Fla.
The Dragons fell to 4-5 on the year with the loss while IUP improved to 6-3.
"There's certainly no shame in losing to IUP," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "They're a good tennis school with a great record. I thought we competed admirably and fought hard until the end."
The closest doubles match for MSUM was at No. 2, where senior
Cortnei Chance and sophomore
Cassie Smith fell to Erika Schnaas and Sophie Butland by an 8-5 score.
In singles, the Crimson Hawks were strong, winning all six matches by straight sets. In the closest singles match, Chance battled tough at No. 2 singles before falling to Abby McCormick, 6-4, 6-2.

Match vs. West Chester Suspended, Won't Be Completed
The match against West Chester was halted with the team score tied at 2-2. MSUM was up by one set in all five singles remaining matches when play was halted. Freshman
Rebecca Lukes and sophomore
Ashley Wood teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles while Lukes won in straight sets at No. 4 singles. However, because the match was not completed -- and won't be -- the individual wins do not count towards the individual records.
"Obviously it is frustrating not to be able to finish the match, especially when we were in such a commanding position," Summers said. "I'm really happy with the how the team performed. It's not easy switching from indoor to outdoor tennis. It feels like a win."
