SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 loss to No. 30-ranked Augustana in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match Friday night in Sioux Falls, S.D.
MSUM fell to 4-8 overall and 3-4 in the NSIC with the loss while Augustana – which is also ranked No. 3 in the region – improved to 16-1 overall and 8-0 in the league.
"It might not look like it but we did do significantly better against Augustana than we did last year," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "We'll continue to improve and come back stronger next year. Now we'll switch our focus to Winona State on Saturday."
Augustana swept three doubles matches. The closest match was at No. 2 doubles, where MSUM's
Cortnei Chance and
Cassie Smith fell to Jenna Helleberg/Meredith Lawrence, 8-3.
In singles, sophomore
Morgan Smith battled tough at No. 3 singles before falling to Francesca Beg, 7-5, 6-1 in the most competitive match.
MSUM faces Winona State at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D.
