MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team will play three Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheaders this week, starting on Tuesday at St. Cloud State (2 p.m. start at the Husky Dome). MSUM is scheduled to make its home debut this weekend with twinbills against Minnesota State, Mankato on Saturday (1 p.m.) and Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday (noon start).

MSUM is 5-10 overall and 1-5 in the NSIC entering the week.

The Dragons went 1-5 in conference games last week. They split with Northern State in Aberdeen, S.D., with sophomore Kristen Nordby firing a shutout in the second game. MSUM ran into two of the top teams in the NSIC last weekend, being swept by No. 11-ranked Augustana and Wayne State on the road.

Nordby also had a solid week at the plate for MSUM, hitting .417 with a homer and two RBI to go with a .667 slugging percentage.

Junior center fielder Mollie Annen is hitting .256 with two doubles, a homer and two RBI for MSUM, while junior Rachel Sannicandro is hitting .250. Junior catcher Brittany York is hitting .244 with four RBI. Sophomore outfielder Kristy Bruni leads with three home runs. MSUM is hitting .212 with eight homers and 25 RBI.

On the mound, sophomore Morgan Nybo is 3-5 with a 4.31 ERA in 52 innings. She leads 38 strikeouts. Nordby is 2-5 with a 4.38 ERA.

Former Dragon standout Kelsey Fehl is in her fourth season as MSUM's head coach.

About the opponents
About St. Cloud State: The Huskies are 6-13 overall and 0-2 in the NSIC. They were swept by Winona State, 7-2 and 6-0 at home on March 28. Breana Canova leads the St. Cloud State offense with a .350 average along with five doubles, a homer and 12 RBI. Tricia DeBoer is hitting .348 for St. Cloud State, which is hitting .270 as a team. On the mound, Kelly Franks is 2-6 with a 3.55 ERA in 67 innings. The Huskies have a team ERA of 4.45. Paula U'Ren is in her 16th season as St. Cloud State's head coach with a record of 551-355 at the school.

About Concordia: Concordia is 7-17 overall and 2-2 in the NSIC.  The Golden Bears, who will face Bemidji State and Sioux Falls prior to facing MSUM, swept Minnesota Crookston, 22-0 and 6-2 on Sunday. Navarae Honoroff leads the Golden Bears with a .359 average, while Bekah Roth is hitting .358 with two homers and 24 RBI. Concordia-St. Paul is hitting .289 as a team. On the mound, Stephanie Kappes is 4-12 with a 3.63 ERA in 106 innings. She has 67 strikeouts. Bob Bartel is in his 10th season as Concordia's head coach with a record of 310-202 at the school.

About Minnesota State: Minnesota State is 20-6 overall and 4-0 in the NSIC.  They will face Minnesota Crookston and Southwest Minnesota State prior to facing MSUM on Sunday.  Samantha Holien leads Minnesota State with a .511 average to go with six homers and 28 RBI. Lindsay Erickson is hitting .425 with seven homers and 36 RBI for the Mavericks, who are hitting .338 as a team. On the mound, Coley Ries is 9-2 with a 1.65 ERA in 72.1 innings.  Lori Meyer is in her 31st season as Minnesota State's head coach with a record of 987-595-3 at the school.
