MOORHEAD, Minn. – After last weekend's two victories, the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team is back in action on Sunday when it faces Bemidji State at 8:30 a.m. in Grand Forks, N.D. The Dragons are looking to solidify a spot in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament which will be held later this month.
The match with Bemidji State will take place at Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks.
MSUM is 6-9 overall and 5-5 in the NSIC. The Dragons won their matches last weekend in Fargo, N.D., beating the University of Sioux Falls (5-4) and Southwest Minnesota State (9-0). MSUM is sixth in the conference, one full game ahead of Minnesota State, Mankato. The top eight teams in the league qualify for the NSIC tournament, which will be held on April 26-27 in Minnetonka, Minn.
Sophomore
Ashley Wood leads the Dragons with a 9-6 record in singles, while freshman
Jessamy Jones is 7-8 at the No. 1 singles spot. In doubles, sophomore
Cassie Smith is 6-8 with Wood at 6-9.
Oliver Summers is in his second season as MSUM's head coach.
About the OpponentBemidji State: The Beavers are 6-7 overall and 3-6 in the NSIC. They lost their matches against the University of Mary (9-0) and Minnesota State (8-1) last weekend, falling to eighth place in the NSIC. Junior Shaylin Prout is 7-5 overall in singles for the Beavers, while sophomore Deanie Hatch is 5-2. Junior Caley Westin is 6-7 to lead the Beavers in doubles. This is head coach Mark Fodness' second season with the Beavers.
