NSIC Tournament BracketMOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team will face St. Cloud State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament on Saturday in Minnetonka, Minn. The match will take place at 11:30 a.m. at Oakdale Lifetime Fitness in Minnetonka.
MSUM is the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament after going 6-10 overall and 5-6 in conference play this season. St. Cloud State is the No. 3 seed after going 12-12 overall and 9-2 in the league.
The winner of Saturday's match will advance to the NSIC tournament semifinals on Sunday to compete against the winner of the match between Mary and Sioux Falls. The loser is eliminated with a defeat.
The Dragons competed against the Huskies earlier in the season, but lost 9-0. All three doubles matches were competitive. MSUM lost the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches with an 8-6 score and another by 8-5. In singles, freshmen
Jessamy Jones and
Rebecca Lukes as well as sophomore
Ashley Wood all had close matches, but ultimately fell to their SCSU opponents.
The Dragons are being led in singles by Wood (9-7 overall) and Jones (8-8). Wood is also a team leader in doubles, alongside sophomore
Cassie Smith. Both players have an overall record of 6-9.
Oliver Summers is in his second season as MSUM head coach.
About St. Cloud State: The third-seeded Huskies are led senior Katie Kotschevar, who leads the team in singles with a 12-12 record, and by fellow senior Maribelle Siegfried, whose record for the season is 11-10. Junior Tori Marlton holds the highest overall record (10-11) for the team in doubles. This is head coach Jerry Anderson's ninth year with the SCSU women's tennis team.
