ST. CLOUD, Minn. – A five-run rally in the top of the 11th inning and a strong pitching performance by sophomore
Kristen Nordby pitching
had an outstanding performance for MSUM on the mound in the second-game win. She went 11 innings and allowed one run, scattering nine hits. She struck out five and walked only one.

Seven Dragons had hits in the game, led by junior shortstop Taylor Huss, who was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Junior catcher Brittany York was 1-for-6 with a two-run double, while Nordby was 2-for-5 with an RBI while freshman second baseman Jill Fox was 1-for-4 with a RBI. Junior center fielder Mollie Annen and freshman left fielder Carly Williamson each had hits for the Dragons.

"I was proud of how we were able to string hits together in the 11th inning and find a way to win," MSUM head coach Kelsey Fehl said. "Kristen pitched a great game and we played good defense behind her."

The game was a pitching duel between Nordby and St. Cloud State's Kelly Franks, as both allowed just one run during the first 10 innings. The Dragons broke through in the 11th to knock Franks out of the game.
The rally in the top of the 11th inning started when Fox led off with a walk. One out later, Annen singled to center. Junior right fielder Heather Tice reached on a fielder's choice, and on the play, the ball was thrown away, allowing Fox to score what proved to be the winning run.

The Dragons were far from through offensively, however, as York doubled to center field to score Tice and Annen, giving MSUM a 4-1 lead. Huss then followed with a double to score York to push the lead to 5-1, and one out later, Nordby singled home Huss to give MSUM a 6-1 lead.

Nordby then sent down the side in order in the bottom of the 11th to secure the win for the Dragons.

In the first game, Annen went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base, while sophomore pitcher Morgan Nybo was 2-for-3.  Freshman first baseman Lauren Meeker was 1-for-3 with an RBI. The Dragons, who had six hits, left 11 runners on base in the game which proved costly.

Nybo pitched well in defeat, allowing three runs (two earned) in six innings. She struck out two and walked three and allowed six hits.

The Dragons scored first in the top of the second. Meeker walked, and one out later, Nordby walked. One out later, junior right fielder Rachel Sannicandro walked to load the bases. Annen then walked to force in freshman Katelyn Ramberg, who was running for Meeker.

St. Cloud State tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the second. MSUM regained the lead in the fifth. Huss reached on an error, and moved to second on a wild pitch. She scored on Meeker's RBI single to put MSUM up 2-1.

That one-run lead stood until the sixth when the Huskies scored twice off of three hits to take a 3-2 lead. The Dragons had runners on first and second with two out in the seventh but were able to get the tying run home.

MSUM is scheduled to make its home opener Saturday against Minnesota State, Mankato. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. at the MSUM Softball Field.
