MSUM got two other key singles wins from a pair of freshmen,
Jessamy Jones and
Rebecca Lukes. Jones beat USF's Joey Bosch, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Lukes beat USF's Molly Seigenthaler, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) to give MSUM four wins in six singles matches.
The Dragons also earned a key win in doubles as Smith and Jones teamed up for an 8-6 win over USF's Bosch and Beard.
MSUM wraps up the home part of its schedule on Sunday at 9 a.m. against Southwest Minnesota State. The match will be held at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.
