MSUM Women's Soccer Hosts Bulldogs and Huskies This Weekend

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team is back home this weekend for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games, starting on Saturday against Minnesota Duluth. Game time is 1 p.m. at the MSUM Soccer Field.

The Dragons will then host St. Cloud State at 1 p.m. on Sunday to wrap up the weekend.

MSUM (1-2, 0-1 NSIC) will face Minnesota Duluth for a 17th time with the Bulldogs holding a 13-3 series lead. The Dragons are 3-13-1 all-time against the Bulldogs. They suffered a 3-0 loss at Duluth last season and have lost the past two meetings in the series, although MSUM did earn a 2-1 over the Bulldogs in the 2011 season. The Dragons are looking for their first-ever win over St. Cloud State; the Huskies lead the all-time series 20-0-1.

The Dragons fell to 1-2 on the season after suffering a tough 1-0 loss at Northern State on Sunday in Aberdeen, S.D. MSUM and Northern were tied for 85 minutes before a goal in the 86th minute broke the tie.

Freshman Jenai DeNardo has the Dragons' goal on the season. Sophomore Jessica Johnson leads the Dragons with nine shots, including four on goal, while senior Stephanie Lindo has six shots. Senior Erin Nyberg and junior Cara Zastrow have five shots each.

Junior Ashley Leintz has 18 saves in three games for MSUM. She recorded the shutout in the Dragons' 1-0 win over Washburn.

Rollie Bulock is in his 16th season as the Dragon head coach with a record of 92-167-15 at the school.

About Minnesota Duluth
Minnesota Duluth, which was 17-5-1 in 2013, enters the week at 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC. The Bulldogs are coming off of a 3-0 win over St. Cloud State to open conference play on Sept. 14. Maureen Stormont, the NSIC Preseason Player of the Year, leads UMD with three goals and six points this season, while Riley Allen has a goal. Jennifer Smith, Sheridan Reiners and Hannah Heil each have two assists for the Bulldogs, who have scored four goals in four games. Two goalkeepers have seen time for the Bulldogs. Marissa Rosa is 1-1 with a shutout and eight saves, while Jordan Melby is 0-2 with eight saves. Rosa has a 1.00 goals allowed average while Melby has a 1.50 goals allowed average. Greg Cane is in his 21st season as UMD's head coach with 221-120-33.

About St. Cloud
St. Cloud State, in its first season under the direction of Head Coach Gretta Arvesen, is off to a 1-3 start overall and 0-1 in the NSIC. The Huskies will face Northern State on Saturday prior to facing the Dragons. They have lost three straight games since winning their season opener over Northern Michigan, 1-0.  In their last game on Sept. 14, the Huskies fell to Minnesota Duluth, 3-0. Abby McDonald leads the Huskies with a goal and two points, while Gabby Fleck has an assist.  Taige Thoreson has 10 shots on goal to lead the Huskies. Brittany Plombon has 30 saves in four games with an .811 save percentage for St. Cloud State. She has one shutout and a 1.75 goals allowed average. She leads the conference at 7.50 saves per game.

Welcome, Jenai
Freshman Jenai DeNardo made her collegiate debut a memorable one on Sept. 5 when she scored the game-winning goal in the Dragons' 1-0 win over Washburn. She shares the team lead with two shots on goal this season.

Leintz Opens Strong
Junior Ashley Leintz recorded the fourth shutout of her career in MSUM's 1-0 win over Washburn on Friday. Leintz had seven saves to preserve the shutout.
