Moorhead, Minn.- The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team played its first home match of the season Tuesday night against the Minot State Beavers. The Dragons won the match in three straight sets 28-26, 25-14, and 25-21.
With the win, the Dragons got back to .500 on the season at 6-6. They also improve to 1-3 in the NSIC.
Senior
Maggie Gruber led the team in kills with 12 while junior
Casie Baer led the team with 25 assists. Junior
Amber Krenske led the Dragons with 15 assists and junior
Kaitlin VanWinkle had three blocks.
The Beavers and the Dragons went back-and-forth in the first set. MSUM led 15-12 in the set before the Beavers fought back and led 17-16 at one point. The Dragons scored the final two points after the score was tied at 26 and took the set 28-26.
The Dragons cruised in the second set, using a run of four straight points to take a 13-7 lead after two kills from Gruber and a kill from VanWinkle. The Dragons controlled the set from then on out and won 25-14.
In the third set, the Dragons scored the first two points on kills by VanWinkle and junior
Abby Wolpern. Both teams traded points throughout the set until MSUM opened a four point lead at 20-16. The match ended when Wolpern finished a kill of a set from Baer.
MSUM will next play on Friday against Winona State. First serve is at 7 p.m. in the Nemzek Fieldhouse.
