MSUM Women's Soccer to Play at Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul This Weekend

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team hits the road this week for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games. The Dragons will face No. 2-ranked Minnesota State, Mankato at 1 p.m. on Saturday and conclude the road trip with a game at Concordia-St. Paul at 1 p.m. on Sunday in St. Paul, Minn.

The Dragons will face Minnesota State for a 13th time with the Mavericks holding an 8-2-2 series lead.  MSUM will meet Concordia-St. Paul for an 18th time with the Golden Bears leading the series, 11-4-2.

MSUM finished 1-3 on its recent homestand, capping it off with a thrilling 2-1 win over Wayne State on Sunday. Junior Kelsey Schatz scored the game-winning goal while junior goalkeeper Ashley Leintz had a career-high 17 saves.

Freshman Jenai DeNardo, Schatz and freshman Mackenzie Carlson each have a goal and two points this season for the Dragons, while sophomores Gabrielle Bjorge and Ashley Germann each have assists. Carlson leads with 13 shots, including six on goal.

Leintz is having a solid season for the Dragons. She leads MSUM with 60 saves and has a shutout. She has a 2.37 goals allowed average. Leintz leads the NSIC at 8.57ß saves per game.

Rollie Bulock is in his 16th season as the Dragon head coach with a record of 93-170-15 at the school

About Minnesota State
No. 2 ranked Minnesota State, Mankato is 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the NSIC entering the weekend.  The Mavericks swept two games at home last weekend, beating Bemidji State, 4-1 and Minnesota Crookston, 3-0.

Minnesota State has outscored its opposition 25-2 this season. Korey Kronforst has eight goals and 16 points to lead the Mavericks, while Dana Savino has five goals, an assist and 11 points. Kiana Nickel has 11 points as well with three goals and five assists. Emily Moris leads with six assists.  Molly McGough has been the primary goalkeeper for the Mavericks and has 12 saves and four shutouts in seven starts. She has a 0.32 goals allowed average.

Brian Bahl is in his second season as Minnesota State's head coach with a record of 25-3-2 at the school.

About Concordia-St. Paul
Concordia-St. Paul is 2-4-1 overall and 2-2 in the NSIC. The Golden Bears are coming off of a 1-0-1 home weekend where they tied Minnesota Crookston, 0-0 and edged Bemidji State, 1-0. They will face Northern State on Saturday prior to facing the Dragons.

Taryn MacMillan leads CSP with two goals and four points, while McKenzie Buck has a goal, an assist and three points. MacMillan and Buck share the team lead with 11 shots. Emma Gartner has started all seven games in goal for the Golden Bears and has 30 saves and two shutouts. She has a 1.38 goals allowed average.

Steve Bellis is in his fourth season as Concordia's head coach with a record of 22-36-2 at the school.

Perfect Time for First Goal
Junior Kelsey Schatz and freshmen Mackenzie Carlson and Jenai DeNardo have each scored the first goal of their college careers this season -- and all have come at critical times for the Dragons. Schatz scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over Wayne State on Sunday. Carlson scored the first goal of her collegiate career earlier in the game to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead. DeNardo scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Washburn to open the 2014 season.

Leintz Strong in Net
Junior Ashley Leintz recorded the fourth shutout of her career in MSUM's 1-0 win over Washburn on Friday. Leintz had seven saves to preserve the shutout. On Sept. 27, in a 2-1 win over Wayne State, Leintz set a career-high with 17 saves.
