SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team fell short against No. 17-ranked Augustana on Wednesday, dropping a 35-3 dual to the Vikings in action in Sioux Falls, S.D.
MSUM fell to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with the loss while Augustana improved to 13-4 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Senior
Michael Joseph picked up the lone Dragon win on the night. The San Diego, Calif., native earned a 5-2 win over Augustana's Logan Henning at 174 pounds to improve to 11-6 on the season.
The Dragons surrendered pins at 133 and 184 and also lost by major decision at 141 and 197 to the Vikings, who have nationally-ranked wrestlers at 125, 141 and 197.
They lost a tough match at 157 as sophomore
Garret Hoffner battled tough before falling to Augustana's Bradyn Neises, 5-3. At 285 pounds, sophomore
Nader Abdullatif also had a competitive match and held a 1-0 lead in the third period before falling to Augustana's Michael Lowman 3-1.
MSUM is off until Jan. 30 when it faces Simon Fraser in a nonconference dual in San Francisco, Calif.
