CROOKSTON, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team fell to Minnesota Crookston in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play Saturday afternoon in four sets, 22-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-7.
MSUM is now 11-4 overall and 4-3 in NSIC play while Minnesota Crookston is 7-8 on the season and 3-4 in the conference.
The Dragons led by as many as 10 in the first set and went on to take the set 25-22. MSUM took a 6-5 lead on a kill from VanWinkle and would go on a run scoring 11 of the next 14 points, claiming a 19-9 lead on an error by Crookston. Included on that run were back to back kills by both Hartkopf and Wolpern. The Dragons brought the set to game point at 24-21 on a kill from Masloski. MSUM would take the set on an error by Crookston.
The second and third sets were close throughout before the Golden Eagles would pull away at the end and take the sets 25-15 and 25-19, respectively.
The Dragons fell behind in the fourth set, 8-0, and were never able to climb back. They would bring the score to 17-5 on a kill by VanWinkle, however, the deficit was too large as Crookston took the set 25-7.
MSUM is back in action on Oct. 9 and 10 with road matches at Winona State and Upper Iowa.
