MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team won five of the 10 matches, but a win by major decision at 125 pounds proved to be the difference as Concordia edged the Dragons, 16-15 in a nonconference dual Wednesday at Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, Minn.
MSUM fell to 0-1 on the year while Concordia improved to 1-0. Four of the five matches the Dragons lost came by one point
The Dragons won at 133, 157, 174, 184 and 285 in the match.
Concordia took a 4-0 lead in the dual when Jakob Stageberg beat Dragon redshirt freshman
Jonathan Lewis 13-3 at 125. MSUM junior
Blake Bosch improved to 7-4 on the season with a 9-4 win over Concordia's Gabe Foltz to cut the lead to 4-3.
Concordia won by decision at 141 and 149 – both victories came by one point -- to push the advantage to 10-3.
Senior
Garret Hoffner got the Dragons back in the win column at 157 with a 6-2 win over Ben Cousins. Concordia pushed the lead to 13-4 with another one-point win at 165.
The Dragons won the next two matches to cut the lead to one. Freshman
Brayden Kuntz beat Concordia's Dane Ringquist by an 18-12 score at 174, while freshman
Austin May edged Jake Johnson, 6-4 in overtime at 184 to bring the Dragons within 13-12.
Concordia pushed the lead to 16-12 at 197 as Hunter SantaMour edged MSUM junior
Austin Warren 3-2.
Senior
Mike Urban, normally a 184-pounder, moved up because of injuries and came up with a win for MSUM, topping Jacob Briggs at 285 by a 3-2 decision as the Cobbers held on for a one-point win in the dual.
The Dragons will compete at the Finn Grinaker Open on Saturday at Concordia.
