Busy Week for Dragon Wrestlers Starts Wednesday at St. John's

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team has a busy week ahead with two duals and a tournament on the schedule. MSUM will compete at St. John's for a nonconference dual at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and then follow by hosting Long Island University Post for a 4 p.m. dual on Friday. The weekend wraps up when MSUM hosts the annual Dragon Open on Saturday.

MSUM is 0-1 in duals, having lost a tough 16-15 decision to Concordia College on Nov. 18.  The Dragons had a solid showing at the Finn Grinaker Open on Nov. 21.

Junior Blake Bosch leads MSUM with a 10-5 record. Junior Garret Hoffner is at 6-3, while freshman Austin May is 8-4. Freshman Dylan Connell is 8-5 while freshman Brayden Kuntz is 8-6 for the Dragons.

St. John's is 0-2 on the season in duals, having lost to Southwest Minnesota State, 31-12 on Nov. 18 and St. Cloud State, 45-3 on Nov. 24. The Dragons rolled to a 34-6 win over the Johnnies on Jan. 16, 2015, which was the last meeting between the two teams.

LIU Post, which will also compete at the Dragon Open on Saturday, is 1-4 in duals. The Pioneers' lone win came on Nov. 11, a 25-14 victory over Shippensburg.

Last Time Out: Bosch Leads Way at Finn Grinaker
 A third-place finish from junior Blake Bosch led the Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team at the Finn Grinaker Open hosted by Concordia College on Nov. 21.

No team scores were kept at the event, which featured wrestlers from Division I programs Minnesota, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State and North Dakota State.

Bosch was third in the 133-pound Gold Division, outlasting SCSU's Jarred Oftedahl 4-2 to take third and finish the day 3-1.

Junior Garret Hoffner was fifth at 157, beating Concordia's Ben Cousins 4-0. Junior Austin Warren was fifth in the 197-pound gold division after beating Northern Iowa's Cody Krumweide, 3-1.

In the Maroon Division,  freshman Adam Blees was fourth at 165 while freshman Brayden Kuntz was fourth at 174. At 157, freshman Jonathan Hoffner was fourth after going 2-3 in a round-robin format.
