MSUM-Augustana Box ScoreMSUM-USF Box ScoreBISMARCK, N.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team dropped a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches on Saturday, losing to Augustana, 8-1 and Sioux Falls, 5-4 in action in Bismarck, N.D.
The Dragons fell to 3-2 overall and in the NSIC with the losses.
"Our players battled so hard against Augustana that they didn't have much left when it came to the Sioux Falls match," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "Sammie aggravated an injury and was unable to play in the singles lineup against USF. In spite of that our players still left it all on the courts and fought hard until the end."
MSUM opened the day against Augustana, the defending NSIC champion. The Vikings swept all three doubles matches and also claimed five of the six singles matches.
The Dragons prevailed at No. 3 singles, where sophomore
Jessamy Jones won a hard-fought 7-5, 4-6, 10-5 (super tiebreaker) decision over Christine Olivo. Senior
Andrea Rognlien battled tough at No. 1 singles for MSUM before falling to Jessa Richards, 7-6, 7-5.
Against Sioux Falls, MSUM battled tough. Each team won three singles matches but the difference came in doubles, where the Cougars won two of three matches.
MSUM's win at doubles came at No. 2 where Jones and junior
Ashley Wood topped USF's Joey Bosch and Stacey Beard, 8-3. USF won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Rognlien beat USF's Alison Kauss, 6-3, 6-2 while Jones capped off a 2-0 day with a 6-4, 6-3 over Boesch at No. 2 singles. Sophomore
Rebecca Lukes rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Morgan Robey at No. 6 singles for the other Dragon singles win.
MSUM resumes action on Saturday, Feb. 28 in Minneapolis, Minn., when the Dragons will face Minnesota State and Southwest Minnesota State in a pair of NSIC contests.
