MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team is back in action on Saturday with a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches in Minnetonka, Minn. The Dragons will face Minnesota State, Mankato at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and end the day against Southwest Minnesota State at 8 p.m.
The Dragons are 3-2 on the season after dropping a pair of matches last week. MSUM lost to defending champion Augustana, 8-1 and Sioux Falls, 5-4. Sophomore
Jessamy Jones was 2-0 in singles to pace the Dragons.
Jones is 5-0 for MSUM while senior
Andrea Rognlien is 4-1 in singles. Junior
Ashley Wood is 3-2. Jones and Wood have teamed up for a 4-1 mark in doubles, while Rognlien, junior
Cassie Smith and freshman
Sammie Smith all have 3-2 doubles records.
Oliver Summers is in his third year as MSUM's head coach.
About Minnesota State: Minnesota State is 3-2 overall and in the NSIC. The Mavericks split last weekend, losing to Upper Iowa, 9-0 before beating Winona State, 7-2 last weekend. Three MSU players have 3-2 singles records: freshman Killian Doran, freshman Andrea Erdman and freshman Destiny Lee. Sophomore Melissa Mashburn and Lee have teamed up for a 4-0 doubles mark. Christie Williams is in her fourth year as Minnesota State's head coach.
About SMSU: The Mustangs are 1-6 overall and 0-5 in the NSIC. They lost to Winona State, 7-2 and Upper Iowa, 9-0 last weekend. Freshman Ashley Hoehne is 2-5 in singles to lead SMSU. Hoehne, senior Katie Kienitz and redshirt freshman Nicole McQueen all have 2-5 marks in doubles for the Mustangs. George Seldat and Adam Henning are SMSU's co-head coaches.
