MSUM-UMC Box ScoreMSUM-Bemidji State Box ScoreGRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team finished undefeated in singles play on its way to a 2-0 record on Saturday in Grand Forks, N.D. MSUM beat Minnesota Crookston, 9-0 to open the day and then topped Bemidji State, 7-2 to conclude action.
Cassie SmithThe Dragons (7-7, 7-2 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) clinched a spot in the NSIC tournament with the two wins. MSUM is alone in third place in the conference behind unbeaten teams Augustana and Upper Iowa with two conference matches left.
"Obviously it doesn't get much better than that. The team played back-to-back matches with no break and won both of them," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "It took us a while to raise our level against Bemidji but by the time singles came around we were in full flow. I'm really proud of my team and how they performed."
MSUM opened the day in dominant fashion against Minnesota Crookston, losing just seven games in the entire dual. The success started in doubles where MSUM rolled to three wins. At No. 1 doubles, sophomore

Ashley Wood beat the UMC pair of Catherine Brown and Whitney Erickson by an 8-2 score.

Andrea Rognlien and junior
Morgan Smith cruised to a win at No. 2 doubles for MSUM, beating Christina Smith and Nikki Dogan 8-0. Freshmen
Jenna Andre and
Jamie Freden beat Rachelle Alcini and Chelsea Burrows 8-0 at No. 3 doubles to complete the Dragon doubles sweep.
The Dragons were equally as impressive in singles, winning all six in straight sets and surrendering just four games on the day. Rognlien beat Brown, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles while Jones downed Erickson in the second slot, 6-1, 6-1.
Morgan Smith beat Christina Smith at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0 while Wood blanked Dogan, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles for MSUM.
Cassie Smith beat Rachelle Alcini, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles while sophomore
Rebecca Lukes dominated Burrows, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 to help the Dragons secure a 9-0 win.
Against Bemidji State, MSUM went a perfect 6-0 in singles after losing two of the three doubles matches. MSUM's doubles win came at No. 3, where
Cassie Smith and Lukes beat Sabrina Okeson and Claudia Bellew, 8-1.
MSUM did not lose a set in singles. Rognlien beat Shaylin Prout, 6-2, 6-0 at the No.1 singles spot while Jones beat Deanie Hatch, 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.
Morgan Smith beat Caley Westin, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles while Wood beat Bellew, 6-3, 6-2 at four singles.
Cassie Smith topped Rachel Franklin, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 singles with Lukes rolling to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Justine Scheller at No. 6 singles.
The Dragons are off until April 11 when they host Winona State. The match begins at 3 p.m. at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.
