Box scoreFARGO, N.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team didn't lose a set on the day in a 9-0 nonconference win over Concordia College in action Friday at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.
MSUM, which is ranked ninth in the latest Central Region poll, improved to 9-8 with the win while Concordia fell to 2-11.
"On paper this might seem like an easy win," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "But our players have worked really hard over the past few seasons to be at a level to achieve this kind of comfortable victory."
The Dragons swept their crosstown rivals in doubles. Sophomore
Jessamy Jones and junior
Ashley Wood earned an 8-3 win over Jade Haseltine and Taylor Peterson at No. 1 doubles, while junior
Cassie Smith and sophomore
Rebecca Lukes posted an 8-4 win over Brittany Glatt and Morgan Sawatzke at No. 2 doubles. Freshmen
Jenna Andre and
Jamie Freden completed the Dragon sweep with a hard-fought 9-8 (9-7) tiebreaker win over Kendra Stoick and Susan Zniewski at No. 3 doubles.
Senior
Andrea Rognlien got MSUM rolling in singles, claiming a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No.1 slot over Glatt to improve to 11-6 on the year. Jones (12-6) beat Haseltine, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles while Wood beat Stoick, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Junior
Morgan Smith also won in impressive fashion, earning a 6-1, 6-0 win over Peterson at No. 4 singles.
Cassie Smith won at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-3 over Sawatzke while Lukes cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Zniewski at No. 6 singles.
MSUM wraps up the regular season on Sunday against Gustavus Adolphus. The nonconference match begins at 3:30 p.m. at Courts Plus in Fargo.
