MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team is back in action on Saturday when it faces No. 6 seeded St. Cloud State in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship quarterfinals. The match begins at 11:30 a.m. at Lifetime Fitness Oakdale in Minnetonka, Minn.
The Dragons (9-9, 8-3 NSIC) are the No. 3 seed in the tournament. They earned that after finishing third in the conference regular season standings.
If MSUM wins, it will face the winner of the No. 2 Upper Iowa vs. No. 7 Mary match, which takes place immediately prior to the Dragons' match with St. Cloud State.
The Dragons beat St. Cloud State, 8-1 on Feb. 14 in Sartell, Minn. MSUM swept all three doubles matches and won five of six singles matches to earn that victory.
MSUM closed out the regular season with a split at home. The Dragons beat Concordia, 9-0 on April 17 before falling to Gustavus Adolphus, 6-3 on Sunday. Sophomore
Rebecca Lukes went a perfect 2-0 in both singles and doubles competition to pace the Dragons.
Senior
Andrea Rognlien and sophomore
Jessamy Jones lead the Dragons with 12-6 singles marks. Junior
Ashley Wood is 10-8 while Lukes is 8-5. As a team MSUM is 59-49 in singles play this season.
Jones and Wood have teamed up for a 9-9 doubles mark. Junior
Cassie Smith is 9-7 while Lukes is 8-7.
Oliver Summers is in his third season as MSUM's head coach.
About St. Cloud State: The Huskies are 9-10 overall and finished 6-5 in the NSIC. They are led in singles by Jamie Voelker and M Roque Diversi, who are each 9-10. In doubles Abigail Kantor and Alexie Portz have combined for a 7-12 record. Jerry Anderson is in his 18th season as SCSU's head coach.
