Dragon Women's Tennis Hosts Winona State and Upper Iowa This Weekend

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team wraps up the conference portion of its season with a pair of home matches this week. MSUM plays host to Winona State at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and will conclude the weekend against Upper Iowa at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Both matches will be at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.

With a spot already secured in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference postseason tournament, MSUM will now look to solidify a high seed this weekend.  The Dragons are 7-2 in the NSIC, one game behind second-place Upper Iowa. If the Dragons win both matches this weekend, they will be the No. 2 seed in the NSIC tournament, by virtue of a tiebreaker (head to head competition).

MSUM (7-7 overall) has not played since March 28, when it beat Minnesota Crookston (9-0) and Bemidji State (7-2) in Grand Forks, N.D. The Dragons swept all six singles matches on their way to the wins.

Sophomore Jessamy Jones leads MSUM with a 10-4 singles record, while senior Andrea Rognlien is 9-5 and junior Ashley Wood is 7-7. MSUM is 43-41 (.512) in singles play this season.

In doubles, Wood and Jones have teamed up for a 7-7 record. Junior Cassie Smith is 6-7 on the season in doubles for MSUM.

Oliver Summers is in his third season as MSUM's head coach.

About Winona State
Winona State is 6-8 overall and 5-4 in the NSIC. The Warriors enter the weekend having lose four matches in a row, including losses to Sioux Falls (6-3) and Augustana (9-0) on March 28.  Justine Daane and Brianna Havelka lead the Warriors with 7-7 records in singles, while  Aimee Basinski is a perfect 7-0 in doubles, including 6-0 in NSIC matches. Heather Pierce is in her third season as Winona State's head coach.

About Upper Iowa
The Peacocks are 10-5 overall and 8-1 in the NSIC.  They suffered their first conference loss of the season on March 20 when they fell to Augustana 9-0.
